1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

In Short: Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. SDKs are software libraries embedded in apps that serve similar tracking purposes.

Cookies are small data files that a website places on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other internet-connected device when you visit the website. Cookies typically contain information about your browser, your preferences, and your interactions with the website. They do not, by themselves, generally identify you personally, but they may be linked with personal information we hold about you. Cookies serve many useful functions, such as keeping you logged in, remembering your preferences, and helping us understand how the Services are used.

Pixels (also called web beacons, tags, or clear GIFs) are tiny graphic images embedded in web pages, advertisements, or emails. Pixels allow a website operator or third party to know when you have viewed a page or message and to collect related information such as your IP address, the time of viewing, and the browser you used.

SDKs (Software Development Kits) are libraries of code that we and our service providers embed in the App to provide features such as analytics, push notifications, crash reporting, advertising, and authentication. SDKs perform many of the same functions as cookies but operate inside the App rather than through a web browser.

Device identifiers are unique identifiers assigned to your mobile device by the operating system or by individual applications. Examples include the Apple Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS, the Google Advertising ID (AAID) on Android, Firebase Installation IDs, and push notification tokens issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).

Local storage (including HTML5 local storage, IndexedDB, and similar mechanisms) are storage mechanisms in web browsers and mobile applications that allow websites and apps to store information locally on your device, often for longer periods than traditional cookies.

2. How We Use Cookies and Similar Technologies

In Short: We use these technologies to make the Services work, keep you logged in, understand how the Services are used, and (where permitted) to support advertising and marketing.

We and our service providers use Cookies and Similar Technologies for the following purposes:

  • To enable core functionality: authenticating users, keeping you logged in, remembering your session, processing form submissions, maintaining the security of the Services, preventing fraud, and providing requested features.
  • To remember your preferences: language, locale, accessibility settings, and other display or interface choices you have made.
  • To analyze and improve the Services: understanding how users discover, navigate, and use the Services; measuring performance; diagnosing errors and crashes; and identifying opportunities to improve features and content.
  • To support marketing and advertising: measuring the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns; (where activated) delivering personalized advertising about Rishta Auntie on third-party platforms; building custom and lookalike audiences; and limiting how often you see the same advertisement.
  • To communicate with you: delivering push notifications and managing related preferences.
  • To comply with legal obligations: honoring opt-out signals, recording consent, and maintaining records as required by law.

3. Categories of Cookies We Use on the Website

In Short: Our Website uses four categories: strictly necessary, functional, analytics, and advertising/targeting. You can accept or reject non-essential categories through our cookie banner.

Our Website uses Cookies and Similar Technologies in the following four categories:

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

Purpose: These Cookies are essential for the Website to function and cannot be turned off. They are typically set in response to actions you take that amount to a request for services, such as logging in, filling out forms, or setting your privacy preferences. They also help us protect the Website from unauthorized access, fraud, and abuse.

Examples: session authentication cookies; security cookies; load-balancing cookies; cookies that record your cookie-consent choices; CSRF (cross-site request forgery) protection tokens.

Consent required? No. These are necessary to provide the Services you have requested. You can block them through your browser settings, but parts of the Website will not function.

3.2 Functional Cookies

Purpose: These Cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering your language preference, locale, login state, accessibility settings, and other display choices. Without these Cookies, you may have to re-enter your preferences each time you visit the Website.

Examples: language and region preferences; user-interface state; remembered login state.

Consent required? Yes, where required by applicable law. You can accept or reject these through our cookie banner.

3.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

Purpose: These Cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Website by collecting and reporting information (often in aggregated form). They allow us to count visits and traffic sources, identify the most and least popular pages, measure how visitors move around the Website, and diagnose technical issues. We use this information to improve the Services.

Examples: Google Analytics 4 (GA4) cookies and related identifiers; Firebase Analytics; crash and performance monitoring tools.

Consent required? Yes, where required by applicable law. You can accept or reject these through our cookie banner.

3.4 Advertising and Targeting Cookies

Purpose: These Cookies and related technologies are used to deliver advertisements that are more relevant to you, to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, to limit how many times you see an advertisement, and to build audiences for future advertising. They are typically set by advertising networks with our permission and may be used to build a profile of your interests and to retarget you on other websites and platforms.

Examples: Google AdMob (currently active in the App); the Meta Pixel (planned for the Website and/or App); the TikTok Pixel (planned for the Website and/or App); other advertising and conversion-measurement pixels and SDKs.

Consent required? Yes, where required by applicable law. You can accept or reject these through our cookie banner. Use of these Cookies and Technologies may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under certain U.S. state privacy laws — see Section 12 below and Section 9 of our Privacy Policy.

4. Specific Service Providers and Their Cookies

In Short: Here are the specific third parties whose Cookies and Similar Technologies we currently use or plan to activate.

The following table identifies the key service providers whose Cookies and Similar Technologies we use or plan to use on the Services, along with the purpose and a link to each provider’s own privacy policy. The list is not exhaustive and may change as we update the Services.

5. Mobile App: SDKs and Device Identifiers

In Short: The App does not use traditional HTTP cookies. Instead, it uses SDKs and device identifiers. You can manage these through your device settings.

The Rishta Auntie mobile App does not use HTTP cookies in the traditional web-browser sense. Instead, the App uses SDKs and device identifiers to perform similar functions, including:

  • Apple’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA): an Apple-controlled identifier on iOS used for advertising and measurement. Use of IDFA requires your affirmative opt-in through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt; if you decline, IDFA is not available to us.
  • Google’s Advertising ID (AAID): an Android device identifier used for advertising and measurement. You may reset it or opt out of personalized advertising through your device’s Ads Personalization settings.
  • Firebase Installation IDs: Google-issued identifiers used to operate core App functionality, including crash reporting, analytics, and push notification delivery.
  • APNs and FCM push notification tokens: device-specific identifiers issued by Apple and Google that allow us (through OneSignal) to deliver push notifications to your device.
  • Local storage and session tokens: values stored on your device by the App to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and operate App features.
  • Third-party SDKs: such as Firebase, AdMob, OneSignal, Google Maps, Google authentication, Apple authentication, and (if and when activated) the Meta SDK and TikTok SDK.

You can control many of these identifiers through your device settings (see Section 13). Note that disabling certain identifiers may degrade or disable certain App functionality.

6. Cookie Duration: Session vs. Persistent

In Short: Some Cookies last only for your current session; others remain on your device for longer periods.

Cookies can be “session” Cookies or “persistent” Cookies, depending on how long they remain on your device:

  • Session Cookies: exist only while your browser is open and are deleted automatically when you close the browser. We use Session Cookies primarily to operate core Website functionality such as authentication and security.
  • Persistent Cookies: remain on your device for a fixed period (which may range from minutes to years) or until you delete them. We use Persistent Cookies primarily for analytics, functional preferences, and advertising/measurement (where activated).

The duration of any particular Cookie depends on the Cookie’s purpose and on the settings used by the provider that placed it. You can review the duration of individual Cookies through your browser settings or through our cookie consent banner where applicable.

7. First-Party vs. Third-Party Cookies

In Short: First-party Cookies are set by Rishta Auntie. Third-party Cookies are set by our service providers and partners.

First-party Cookies are set directly by Rishta Auntie on the Website and are generally used to support core functionality, remember your preferences, and analyze how the Website is used.

Third-party Cookies are set by our service providers and partners (such as Google, Meta, and TikTok). These Cookies may be used to provide functionality on the Website, to perform analytics on our behalf, or to support advertising and marketing. The third parties that place Cookies on your device are responsible for their own data practices, including the categories of personal information they collect, the purposes for which they use it, and the choices they offer you. Please review their privacy policies (linked in Section 4) for details.

8. Your Choices and How to Manage Cookies

In Short: You can control Cookies and Similar Technologies through our cookie banner, your browser settings, your device settings, and recognized opt-out tools.

8.1 Cookie Consent Banner (Website)

When you first visit the Website (and at later intervals or upon changes to our Cookies practices), you will be presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept or reject non-essential Cookies and to manage your Cookie preferences by category. You may change your preferences at any time by clicking the “Cookie Preferences” or equivalent link on the Website.

8.2 Browser Controls

Most web browsers allow you to control Cookies through their settings. You can typically:

  • View the Cookies stored on your device;
  • Delete some or all Cookies;
  • Block all Cookies, third-party Cookies, or Cookies from specific websites;
  • Receive a notification before a Cookie is stored; and
  • Use “private browsing” or “incognito” modes that limit Cookie persistence.

For information on how to manage Cookies in the most common browsers, please visit:

  • Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647

  • Opera: https://help.opera.com/en/latest/web-preferences/#cookies
  • Brave: https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050634931

For other browsers, please consult the browser’s help documentation. Note that if you block or delete Cookies, certain features of the Website may not function properly, and you may need to re-enter your preferences each time you visit.

8.3 Industry Opt-Out Tools

You can also opt out of certain advertising Cookies through industry tools, including:

  • Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) WebChoices: https://optout.aboutads.info
  • Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (DAAC) AdChoices: https://youradchoices.ca/en/tools
  • Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): https://optout.networkadvertising.org
  • European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (for users who may access the Website while in Europe).

Opting out through these tools is browser- and device-specific. You will need to opt out again if you clear your Cookies, use a different browser, or use a different device.

9. Cookie Consent Banner

In Short: Our cookie banner lets you accept, reject, or customize non-essential Cookies. You can change your choice at any time.

Our Website displays a cookie consent banner that allows you to:

  • Accept all Cookies (including non-essential categories);
  • Reject all non-essential Cookies (strictly necessary Cookies will still be set because they are required for the Website to operate);
  • Customize your preferences by Cookie category (Strictly Necessary, Functional, Analytics, and Advertising/Targeting); and
  • Review the providers and purposes associated with each category.

Your cookie preferences are stored in a Cookie on your device. If you clear your Cookies, use a different browser or device, or use a private/incognito session, your preferences may need to be set again. We may also periodically prompt you to re-confirm your preferences when our Cookie use changes.

10. Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Other Opt-Out Signals

In Short: We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal on our Website. When we detect a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the “sale” and “sharing” of personal information.

The Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser-based signal that allows you to communicate your privacy preferences to websites you visit. If your browser or browser extension sends a GPC signal when you visit our Website, we honor that signal by treating it as a valid request to opt out of the “sale” and “sharing” (including for cross-context behavioral advertising) of personal information associated with that browser, as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act), the Colorado Privacy Act, the Connecticut Data Privacy Act, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act, and other applicable state laws that recognize opt-out preference signals.

Because GPC signals are browser- and device-specific, you may need to enable GPC separately on each browser and device that you use. GPC does not extend to opt-out requests for other types of processing (such as account-level opt-outs for marketing emails or SMS), which must be submitted through the channels described in our Privacy Policy.

For more information about Global Privacy Control, please visit https://globalprivacycontrol.org.

11. Do Not Track

In Short: There is no industry-wide standard for Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. We do not currently respond to DNT signals.

Some web browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) setting that allows users to communicate a preference not to be tracked across websites. Because no industry or legal standard has been established for recognizing and implementing DNT signals, we do not currently respond to DNT signals. We do, however, honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control (see Section 10).

12. “Sale” and “Sharing” of Personal Information via Cookies

In Short: Our use of advertising and targeting Cookies (current and planned) may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under certain U.S. state privacy laws. You have the right to opt out.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”), and similar laws in other U.S. states (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Delaware, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maryland, Minnesota, Kentucky, Nebraska, and Rhode Island), the terms “sale” and “share” are defined broadly. “Share” generally includes disclosing personal information to third parties for “cross-context behavioral advertising” — that is, targeting advertising to a consumer based on the consumer’s personal information obtained from the consumer’s activity across distinctly-branded websites, applications, or services.

Our practices. Rishta Auntie does not sell personal information for monetary consideration. However, our current use of Google AdMob and our planned use of the Meta Pixel/SDK and TikTok Pixel/SDK, together with related advertising activities (such as retargeting based on limited demographic information), may qualify as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under these state laws.

Your right to opt out. You have the right to opt out of these activities. You may do so by:

  • Adjusting your Cookie preferences in our cookie consent banner;
  • Enabling Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser (see Section 10);
  • Clicking the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link on our Website;
  • Adjusting device-level advertising controls on iOS (App Tracking Transparency) or Android (Ads Personalization);
  • Emailing support@rishtaauntie.app; or
  • Submitting a request through https://www.rishtaauntie.app/contact.

For additional information about how we process personal information for advertising purposes and how to exercise your rights, please review Sections 9, 20, and 21 of our Privacy Policy.

13. Mobile Device Controls

In Short: You can control App SDKs, advertising identifiers, and notifications through your iOS or Android device settings.

In addition to the choices described above, your mobile device provides several controls that affect how Cookies and Similar Technologies operate within the App:

13.1 iOS

  • App Tracking Transparency (ATT): If we (or a service provider) seek to use your IDFA or similar tracking, you will be presented with Apple’s ATT prompt. You can ask Apps not to track at the device level under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Apple Advertising: Manage Apple’s personalized advertising under Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.
  • Location Services: Manage location-permission grants under Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
  • Notifications: Manage push notifications under Settings → Notifications → Rishta Auntie.

13.2 Android

  • Ads Personalization: Manage Google’s Advertising ID and personalized advertising under Settings → Google → Ads (you can opt out of Ads Personalization and reset your advertising ID).
  • App permissions: Manage permissions for location, camera, microphone, and storage under Settings → Apps → Rishta Auntie → Permissions.
  • Notifications: Manage push notifications under Settings → Notifications → Rishta Auntie.

14. Children

In Short: The Services are intended exclusively for adults 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly use Cookies or Similar Technologies to collect information from anyone under 18.

The Services are restricted to individuals 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly use Cookies or Similar Technologies to collect personal information from individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly engage in the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information of individuals under 18 (or under any other age threshold established by applicable law).

15. Changes to This Cookies Policy

In Short: We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on the Website with a new “Last Updated” date.

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our use of Cookies and Similar Technologies, in our service providers, in applicable law, or for other reasons. When we make changes, we will update the “Effective Date” and “Last Updated” dates at the top of this Cookies Policy. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice (such as through the cookie banner, an in-App notification, or another reasonable means) and, where required by law, request your renewed consent. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any change to this Cookies Policy will constitute your acceptance of the updated Cookies Policy.
